The short version: Ammonia stores as little as it can: your Discord ID, plus the few things you deliberately save, like a reminder or your timezone. It doesn't sell anything, show ads or track you. Some commands send what you type to outside services, which are listed below.

Who runs Ammonia

Ammonia is a free hobby project made and run by satu. It isn't a company. If you have a question about your data, see Contact at the bottom.

What Ammonia stores

Ammonia keeps a small database on the computer it runs on. It only saves something when you use a command that needs it:

  • Reminders (/tools remindme): your Discord ID, the channel, the reminder text and when it's due. Each reminder is deleted once it's been sent, or when you remove it with /tools delreminder.
  • AFK status (/social afk): your Discord ID, your AFK message and when you set it. It's deleted the next time you send a message.
  • Timezone (/social settimezone): your Discord ID and the timezone you picked. It's kept until you ask for it to be removed.
  • Bot bans: if you're banned from using Ammonia, it keeps your Discord ID, the reason, who banned you and when the ban ends. Temporary bans are deleted when they expire.

That's everything. Ammonia doesn't build a profile of you, and it doesn't keep a history of the commands you use.

What Ammonia sees but doesn't keep

  • Messages. In the servers Ammonia has joined, it reads messages to notice commands that start with -- and to tell people when someone they mentioned is AFK. Messages aren't saved anywhere. When you use Ammonia through Discord's user install, it only sees the commands you run.
  • Files and links you give it. Images, videos and audio sent to commands like /media are downloaded, processed and deleted as soon as the result is sent. Links are visited to do what the command says, then forgotten.
  • Error logs. If a command crashes, technical details are printed to the console of the computer running the bot so it can be fixed. These aren't sent anywhere else.

Who else sees what you send

Many commands work by asking another service for something. When you use one, that service receives what the command needs, such as a website address, a search term or a file. It doesn't receive your Discord account details.

  • A network proxy. Requests to websites you choose go through a proxy service, so those websites see the proxy's address instead of the bot's. The proxy provider can see which addresses are being visited.
  • VirusTotal (/virustotal and /safety linkcheck). Files and links you scan are sent to VirusTotal, which is owned by Google. VirusTotal shares submitted files and links with its security community, so don't scan anything private or personal.
  • Web and lookup services, including the Internet Archive (Wayback Machine), Google DNS, ip-api, RDAP, crt.sh, CertSpotter, HackerTarget, Anubis, the YouTube Data API, Radio Browser, popcat.xyz, TheCatAPI, http.dog, GDBrowser, Newgrounds, Steam, computernewb and the meme video archive. Each one only receives the query for the command you ran.
  • Discord, which carries every message and command. Discord's own Privacy Policy applies to that.

Each of these services has its own privacy policy. Ammonia never sells or trades your information, and it doesn't use analytics or advertising.

Your choices

  • See your reminders with /tools reminders and remove one at any time with /tools delreminder.
  • Your AFK status clears itself as soon as you talk again.
  • To have anything else removed, including your timezone or everything stored about your Discord ID, get in touch using the details below and it will be deleted.
  • To stop using Ammonia, remove it from your account (Discord settings, then Authorized Apps) or from your server.

Age

You need to be old enough to use Discord in your country to use Ammonia. Ammonia doesn't knowingly store information about anyone younger than that.

Changes

If this policy changes, this page will be updated and the date at the top will change. Big changes will also be noted in the bot's source code history.
